Ex-Ipswich, Scotland boss Burley: Inverness' Butcher could be England target

Former Scotland manager George Burley is of the belief that Terry Butcher will attract interest from English clubs if Inverness Caledonian Thistle continue their good recent form.

Caley currently sits third on the Scottish Premier League table, just five points behind league leaders Celtic, and Burley feels the boss would be a hit in England if he can lead the highlands club to a spot in Europe.

"If Terry could take Inverness into Europe this season it would be an incredible achievement," the Ipswich Town legend told MailSport.

"He's taken one of the smallest clubs in the SPL to second top of the table on a tiny budget.

"He's got exciting young players who are playing an attacking brand of football. Who knows how far he can take this team?

"They've beaten Rangers and Celtic in Glasgow this season - how many teams do that?

"If Terry continues to do well and Caley have a great season, clubs in England will be having a look at him.

"He deserves a crack at a big club after the job he's done there. Inverness have given him a chance but he merits a shot at a bigger club - either in Scotland or England."
