Ex-Hearts winger Mikoliunas says Vlad was an egotist

Former Heart of Midlothian loanee Saulius Mikoliunas has opened up about club owner Vladimir Romanov.

The Lithuanian winger spent four years, between 2005 and 2009, on loan at Tynecastle from FBK Kaunas so is well-versed to comment on how Romanov ran the Edinburgh club, especially when he first took charge.

Mikoliunas recalled how Romanov felt jealous when George Burley had the Jambos sitting atop the Scottish Premier League table at one stage.

"There were times when it seemed he was fighting with everyone - including his own players," he told SunSport.

"But when things happened it was never his fault and he always blamed everybody else. He has a big ego.

"I remember when we were top of the league and doing well under George Burley.

"Romanov was a little bit jealous the fans and everybody was talking about George rather than him. Maybe that is why he kicked George out, but I don't know that for sure.

"Romanov liked to be at the centre of everything. He would quite often come out on the training pitch and try to play football with us.

"He thought he was a good player who could play for Barcelona. He would often make us laugh."
