Ex-Germany international Buchwald interested in Japan job

Former Germany international Guido Buchwald has revealed his interest in the Japan national team coaching job after the World Cup.

The ex-defender, who made his name with VfB Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga before moving to Japan's Urawa Reds, says the job of taking over the Blue Samurai is one that appeals to him especially as current coach Takeshi Okada is not guaranteed to go on after South Africa.

"The Japan national team job is very attractive, and it could be an important challenge for me," Buchwald told Japanese daily Hochi Shimbun.

"If I could have an opportunity to work for Japan--a country I love--I don't think I could be happier. I have serious interest in the position, to be perfectly honest."

Buchwald has had managerial experience with Urawa whom he guided to the 2006 J-League championship and in Germany with 2.Bundesliga outfit Alemannia Aachen.
