Former France coach Laurent Blanc has revealed contact with AS Roma.

Blanc was linked with the post after the 4-3-3 man was shown the door in February.

"It's true, there was contact," the former Napoli and Inter defender told L'Equipe. "However, we were not on the same wavelength.

"The move didn't happen for various reasons on both sides," added the 47-year-old ex-Bordeaux tactician.

"I want to take on a challenge, to have ambitions but also time - even if we know what time is like in football.

"I'm not talking about five, four, three years, but a little time…

"I miss football and the type of challenge a club can offer me, rather than the nationality of that club, will be what my decision is based on.

"It is my objective to again compete and test myself against Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, those who I consider the best."
