Ex-Forest boss McClaren in contact with Newcastle Jets

Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve McClaren is being linked with the Newcastle Jets job.

Ex-Middlesbrough and FC Twente manager McClaren is a free agent since leaving the City Ground a fortnight ago and representatives have been in touch with the Jets via email about his availability.

Jets management are expected to go local, however, with ex-Jets coach Gary van Egmond and former Melbourne Victory boss Ernie Merrick among the contenders.

Newcastle are expected to now accelerate their plans following today's defeat at Wellington Phoenix.
