Former FA chief David Davies admits Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was "unimpressed" by the call-up to Sven Goran Eriksson's 2006 England World Cup squad of Arsenal teen Theo Walcott.
In his book 'F.A. CONFIDENTIAL: SEX, DRUGS AND PENALTIES - THE INSIDE STORY OF ENGLISH FOOTBALL', Davies wrote: "At least not many people disputed his squad, although there was a debate around Theo Walcott, Arsenal's teenager, untried even at club level.
"Steven Gerrard, I knew, was unimpressed with Theo being chosen, but Sven had made his judgment.
"Would taking Jermain Defoe or Darren Bent instead really have changed our fortunes? A fit Wayne Rooney might have done, though."
