Rangers captain David Weir could have walked away from the club this summer but decided to play on. It is still yet to be decided if that was a wise choice as he has not been able to get onto the pitch so far this season but Weir said he turned down the chance to go back to Everton in a coaching capacity so he could have another campaign as a 'Gers player.
The 41-year old has led the Glasgow giants to the last three SPL titles and admits it would have been easy to leave after such success but wants to give it one last shot to prove he can still play at the top level.
"It would have been the easiest thing in the world for me to walk away last summer," he said.
"It was probably the natural thing to do and time will tell if I've made the right decision.
"At that time I didn't feel as though I was ready to walk away from Ibrox. I felt as though I had one last challenge in me.
"I know it was Walter's (Smith) last year, but it didn't feel like the end for me.
"I felt as though I could still contribute as a player. I want to try and drag blood out of a stone.
"Now I've had the chance to get involved with coaching.
"People always tell me to play as long as I can.
"Davie Moyes has offered me a job these past two summers - he said there was a coaching position at Goodison for me.
"I know by not accepting it I am putting the chance of a position there at risk.
"I would learn a lot, but Davie tells me to keep playing!
"An opportunity like Everton doesn't come along that often.
"I felt in the summer I wasn't finished and that's because of the success I've had.
"You get greedy. The more you win the more you enjoy it."
