Former England star Trevor Steven was rescued from a river on the weekend.
Steven had to be hauled from a river yesterday after he rescued his dog from drowning, says the Mirror.
The ex-Everton and Rangers star, 47, had jumped in when German Shepherd Mac fell down a steep 15ft embankment.
Songwriter John McLaughlin, 45, who was staying at Steven's home in Bothwell, Lanarkshire called for help. Steven, up to his chest in the River Clyde, held on to the dog for 30 minutes while a police helicopter, paramedics and two fire crews set up his rescue before pulling him out with a rope.
Steven said: "It was a bit of a shock. I didn't really have any choice as Mac would have been swept away. It was just instinct."
