Ex-Everton boss Royle praises Moyes for late transfer business

Former Everton boss Joe Royle feels David Moyes did some good work in the summer market.

Royle says he likes the look of the new faces and feels they can make a real difference this season.

"Arteta was a great servant to the club," Royle told evertonfc.com. "But he cost £2m, so to get £10m for a player, even one as loved by the fans as he was, who is 29 and not been at his best since his injury is a great fee. He needed a change, he needed to freshen himself up and we are well covered in midfield with the emergence of Barkley and the signs that Jack Rodwell is finally beginning to find his form again. Osman is still about and there is Bilyaletdinov waiting to confirm all the promise he showed - maybe he will get a run at it now.

"Also Drenthe looks like he is full of pace and he is not fully wound up yet. He looks a good signing and I can see why David has brought him in.

"As for the striking positions, Yakubu always had fitness problems and I think David has decided that enough is enough and you have to back your manager on that. Beckford was great value. We took him on a free and got a couple of million for him. I think he is happy with Vellios who I saw last season and thought had promise."
