Former Everton striker James McFadden is training with Sunderland.
The Telegraph says Martin O'Neill admitted last week he was looking at a list of free agent players as he is still not happy with the strength in depth of his first team squad.
McFadden began his career at Motherwell before moving to Everton for the first time in 2003. He went on to play for Birmingham City before returning to Merseyside on a short-term contract last season.
