Courtney Meppen-Walter will be given a second chance at football after being released from prison.
The former Manchester City youngster and England U18 captain was jailed for 16 months in February following a road traffic collision which led to the deaths of a brother and sister in Manchester.
Meppen-Walter is now out of prison and will undergo a two-week trial with League One club Carlisle United.
"We have all done things in our past that we could reflect on and change. We all deserve a second chance," said Cumbrians boss Graham Kavanagh.
"He seems a lovely lad. He is remorseful about what has happened.
"It is an opportunity for us. Courtney is a young man who has made a mistake and hopefully people can forgive him and can move forward."
