Howe is convinced Lampard can be a success in Italy and wrote in his column for the Daily Telegraph: "Frank Lampard has everything that it takes to be a success in Italian football and that augurs well not only for Inter Milan but the England team as well.

"Lampard will not have any trouble acclimatising to the demands of Serie A where counter-attacking holds sway because those are the methods he was used to under Inter manager Jose Mourinho when they were together at Chelsea.

"Mourinho was derided in some quarters because his tactics seemed so defensive but they were fruitful and it was Lampard that made it tick because he is an all-singing, all-dancing midfielder who can do his bit defensively and then make countless runs into the opposition penalty box.

"That will mean that Lampard will prove to be as valuable as an extra player at the San Siro because he does everything unlike, for example, AC Milan midfield partners Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso whose roles are more specific."
