Former England boss Graham Taylor is convinced there’s more to Aaron Lennon's withdrawal from Tottenham's team at Real Madrid than meets the eye.

In his column for the Daily Express, Taylor wrote: "Like many other players he has used Twitter to let us know that he had been ill several days before the game and had been given medication, something that his manager never referred to.

"Understandably, Lennon does not wish to be regarded as a bottler and his explanation does beg the question: why he was selected in the first place?

"Harry, and only Harry, can answer that.

"I am well aware that managers do not like to answer questions about their players’ personalities, but this was such a big game for the club and their supporters that he will be asked for a full and frank explanation."
