Ex-Dundee Utd striker Gallacher: Blackburn can pull off a coup by signing Goodwillie

Former Dundee United and Blackburn Rovers striker Kevin Gallacher believes the Lancashire club have a bargain on their hands if they can pick up David Goodwillie for the price mentioned in recent reports.

22-year old Goodwillie looks set to join the English Premier League outfit for around £2.8million and Gallacher, who left Scotland after seven seasons at Tannadice, feels it is very good business by the Ewood Park outfit.

"If David signs for Blackburn then it's a great move for him and also a bargain for them at that price," said Gallacher who also plied his trade with Coventry City and Newcastle United among others.

"When you look at the sums of money spent in England on players, to get a striker with his scoring record for that is a great bit of business.

"I think he will do well in England. I have seen him play quite a few times and he has all the attributes you need.

"Coming to England is a step up from the SPL and it might take him a wee while to settle.

"But if he can get in amongst the goals early on, which is always key for a forward player, then there's no saying what he could achieve. You just need to look at Charlie Adam. He came from Rangers to Blackpool and just a couple of years later has just gone to Liverpool for big money.

"It shows Scottish players can make the grade down in England and I'm sure if David Goodwillie keeps progressing the way he has in the last few years he'll be a great signing."
