James McClean is being backed for success at Sunderland under fellow Ulsterman Martin O'Neill.

Former Derry City winger McClean was sold by Steve Kenny, who has recently taken over at Irish champions Shamrock Rovers, for around £350,000.

Kenny said: "I think James will do brilliantly under Martin. He wants to learn, he is a level-headed guy. He was a joy to work with."
