Ex-Derby, West Brom forward Barnes breaks MLS drought

Giles Barnes was back on the scoresheet as Houston Dynamo recorded a solid 3-1 home win over the Seattle Sounders on the weekend.

The English forward had not netted since May 8 when he fired the Dynamo ahead in the 17th minute at BBVA Compass Stadium before quickly putting them two goals ahead with a sizzling long range effort less than five minutes later.

The goals were the former Derby County and West Bromwich Albion man's fifth and sixth of the season for the Dynamo and he was happy to discover some much-needed scoring form.

"It's always nice to get on the score sheet, but first and foremost your confidence comes from playing well with the team and working hard with the team," Barnes said.

"If you work hard you'll get your rewards and hopefully that's what I'm doing. I'm working hard and hopefully the rewards will come."

And Barnes' fellow scorer on the night, Will Bruin, felt the Dynamo were tilting towards further positivity for the back end of the campaign.

"That's what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to score goals," Bruin said. "I think me and Giles are getting back on that same page that we were at the beginning of the year. That's going to be dangerous come these last few games."
