Ex-DC United, Benfica, Monaco forward Adu eyeing sneaky World Cup chance

Freddy Adus is holding hope that he can soon find a club in order to push for an unlikely berth in the USA World Cup squad.

The 24-year old forward is currently training with English Championship club Blackpool following his departure from Brazilian outfit Bahia in November.

Despite the fact he doesn't have a club, the former DC United prodigy, who has since had spells with the likes of Benfica, Monaco and Philadelphia Union, is maintaining belief that he could possibly force his way into Juergen Klinsmann's roster for Brazil 2014 if given the chance.

"You never know," Adu, who last played for the US in 2011, told Blackpool's official website.

"You play well for the next couple of months and you're in camp for the World Cup. You just never know.

"You have to make the right decision and you have to do what you have to do to get on the field and play and when you get on the field, you have to make a difference on the field and stay there."

Adu added: "Right now, I'm really not in a rush to really get anything done right this second.

"I need to make the right decision for my career, as well. I haven't always made the right decisions as far as choices of teams I've gone to in the past. I have to make the right decision this time."
