Ray Wilkins has hit out at the Football Association for taking the England captaincy from John Terry.
The Chelsea skipper has been punished by the FA just days after his court case for racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand was put back to July and Wilkins is livid.
Terry will not wear the captain's armband for his nation in any matches prior to the court case, which includes this summer's European Championships, and the decision has angered the club's former assistant manager.
"As far as I'm concerned, if you take the captaincy away then take the player away from the squad, because John will be a massive influence, whichever way he goes.
"It is a massive blow for John. He is an extremely proud man and he will be absolutely devastated.
"I am saddened by the news, I have to say, because it is almost as if he has been proven guilty, and he hasn't.
"I am disappointed for John, immensely.""I don't really think it should have happened if I'm perfectly honest," Wilkins told Sky Sports News Radio.
