Former Chelsea and England fullback Graeme Le Saux insists it's not all doom and gloom for England.
The Three Lions will farewell the World Cup today against Costa Rica.
Le Saux told the Daily Star: "Whatever stage you leave a tournament it's very disappointing.
"Professionally you really want to be giving as good an account of yourself as you think you can.
"In this situation, the way England have played is very positive so there are some things the team can look at that they can take some hope from.
"Now that we can't qualify I'd love to see [Ross] Barkley play 90 minutes. I would love to see [Adam] Lallana start a game.
"You just want to finish with a positive display and come home with your heads held high, as much as you can."
