Ex-Chelsea coach Wilkins: Rafa wrong about 'fantastic season'

Former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins says Rafa Benitez is wrong to claim it's been a "fantastic season".

The Blues boss made the claim after dumping Manchester United out of the FA Cup last week.

But Wilkins told Absolute Radio: "No, I am inclined to disagree with Rafa but I did that in the week and got slightly punished by it. We are all entitled to our own opinion. So I don't think they had an opportunity within the world club championship, which they failed, had a fantastic opportunity of taking the Capital One Cup, but lost in the two legged game against Swansea. And it's a fight now; it's a fight now for the top four. Tottenham without Bale, both Arsenal and Chelsea an amazing advantage over the next couple of weeks to push themselves a bit closer to that third and fourth place.

"So no, I wouldn't say it's a fantastic season for Chelsea at all. Yes they can possibly win a couple of cups but at the end of the day Chelsea is more than a Team now, Chelsea is about winning championships and they haven't been competitive as far as the championship is concerned."

Wilkins was talking to Ian Wright of Absolute Radio Rock n' Roll Football. Every Saturday from 5pm on 1215AM. For more, visit absoluteradio.co.uk/football.
