Ex-Chelsea chairman Bates questions Mourinho return

Former Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has questioned a Premier League return for Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea - who Mourinho led to the league title for the first time in 50 years - have been linked with him, as have Manchester City.

The Portuguese boss has also been linked with Manchester United as the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson.

"You have to ask who can afford him and his budget," said Leeds United chairman Bates.

"I don't think he would fit into Manchester United and he has already been at Chelsea and I would be surprised if he went back there.

"Will he return to English football? Nothing surprises me, but I don't know who can afford him or his ethics."
