Ex-Charlton, Leeds winger Sam to miss NYRB play-offs

Lloyd Sam is set to miss the remainder of the MLS season with New York Red Bull.

The 28-year old former Charlton Athletic and Leeds United winger has injured his posterior cruciate ligament and will now be sidelined as the Red Bulls prepare for the 2012 playoffs.

"Lloyd Sam is out for the season unfortunately," said coach Hans Backe. "(He has) a knee injury, I don't know the exact diagnosis as yet, but he is out definitely.''

New York are getting set to take on Philadelphia Union in their final regular season fixture this weekend prior to the finals series and could finish as high as third on the Eastern Conference table if results go their way.
