Ex-Charlton defender Diawara wants Premiership return

Former Charlton defender Souleymane Diawara has revealed his ambition to play Premier League football in the near future.

The Senegal international joined The Addicks in the summer of 2006 and appeared 23 times in the top flight, but could not prevent his team from being relegated.

The 28-year-old handed in a transfer request in order not to play in The Championship and was allowed to join Ligue 1 title contenders Bordeaux.

"Of course I want to play Premier League football again, I hope I will return pretty soon," Diawara told setantasports.com.

"It took me time to adapt and to understand their football, but when I learnt it I started to have a lot of fun.

"Charlton had a good team and if we had not been disturbed by non-sporting issues, I think we could have avoided the drop. That is life. I do not regret at all this very interesting experience and I want to return."
