Ex-Celtic striker Sutton urges club to secure manager Lennon

Celtic legend Chris Sutton has urged the club to secure manager Neil Lennon to a new deal now.

Lennon is halfway through a 12-month contract with the Hoops and currently ahs the side sitting at the top of the Scottish league table and in contention for both the Scottish and league cups.

Sutton feels Celtic management should deal Lennon in now to reward for him for his efforts thus far.

"Neil deserves trophies, he deserves a new contract - in fact I would deal him in now because I think he has earned it. Look at what Celtic were a year ago and compare that with the team he's got on the park now," the former star striker told SunSport.

"They're so much better, no one can deny that, and Neil has to take the credit for that.

"The board has to be congratulated for having the guts to give Neil the job and since then I feel he's gone from strength to strength.

"Neil's got one of the biggest jobs in football and he must be knackered most of the time.

"I don't think people appreciate the pressure he's under and the job he's done in a relatively short spell.

"In my mind he's more than proved himself already, although of course no one wants to win trophies more than he does.

"Neil's got a good enough squad as it is, but he's still looking to bring one or two more in and strengthen certain areas.

"This year is about winning the league - but, in my mind, Celtic can win the Treble."
