Ex-Celtic star Boyd: Rangers should be stripped of titles

Former Celtic defender Tom Boyd believes Glasgow rivals Rangers should be stripped of the titles they won with allegedly illegal players.

There has been no shortage of coverage about the Ibrox outfit who have fallen into liquidation and will now compete in Scotland's Third Division because of financial misdemeanours over an extended period.

Boyd suggests that any titles won in the questioned era between 1998 and 2010 should be taken away from Rangers as he feels they were won against the rules.

"If it's the case that Rangers got players illegally, then they should be stripped of those titles," he said.

"Whether you give it to the team who finished second, or whatever, is for them to decide. But certainly they should be stripped of those titles.

"We'll see what the outcome is. The correct thing is not so much to give those titles to other teams, but to punish any club if they are found to have won it fraudulently or cheated through that way."

A Scottish Premier League board meeting on August 10 will decide which disciplinary charges will be placed on Rangers who are currently trying to sort out a Scottish Football Association licence so they can play in the Scottish Football League next season.
