Ex-Celtic, Leeds star Viduka shuts down A-League talk

Former Celtic, Leeds United and Newcastle United striker Mark Viduka has all but confirmed his retirement. Viduka admits there's little chance of him playing in the A-League next season.

"I'm not playing at the moment, am I? Most likely I won't play - most likely. Unless some sort of inspiration comes," he said.

On Australia's lone striker system, Viduka says it was their best chance of success at the World Cup.

He told the Sydney Morning Herald: "To be honest, I never liked to play in that formation. I always liked to have two at the front because it takes the pressure off the other striker. But I think it's the best way for them to play to get the results. What would you prefer? Play beautiful football and not get to the World Cup? Or play not-so-beautiful football and go?"
