Former Celtic goalkeeper Jonathan Gould is excited about his new job as Wellington Phoenix assistant coach. "My old man's (former English FA Cup player/manager Bobby Gould) adage is - and I believe 100 per cent in it - that you go where you want to. I wanted to go to Wellington and be near Ricki (Herbert)," Gould told Hawkes Bay Today.
"As a player you dream of playing for the top club. At some point, I would dream of being with a top club [as a coach] somewhere in the world. In what capacity, I'm not really bothered."
In the past four years, Gould has worn many different hats, including that of New Zealand Football assistant coach, but this time it's a boon to focus on one key task.
"I'll be just helping getting a team prepared for a Saturday and there'll be nothing else that cuts across that and that goes back to how it was as a player ... and I'll be really enjoying it."
