Ex-Celtic, Aberdeen winger Smith off Colorado Rapids’ disabled list

Colorado Rapids have removed Scottish winger Jamie Smith from their disabled list after eight months.

Colorado Rapids have removed Scottish winger Jamie Smith from their disabled list after eight months.

The 31-year old sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during last season’s MLS play-offs but is now close to returning to action.

Former Celtic man Smith, who joined Colorado from Aberdeen in 2009, was on the bench for the Rapids as they lost 2-1 to San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night.

In addition to Smith’s news, the Denver club have waived 2012 Supplemental Draft selection and Japanese midfielder Kohei Yamada after failing to make a first team appearance.
