Spanish coach Pepe Serer has revealed he's a candidate for the technical director's post for the Australian Football Federation.

The Aussies have advertised worldwide for a new technical director and whittled their search down to a shortlist - which includes Serer.

Serer's linked with Australia comes via agent Vicente Floro, who has close ties to the nation's football community.

"It would be an important challenge and a step forward in my career," Serer told Efe.

As a player, Serer was with Barcelona, Mallorca, Valencia and Villarreal. And he worked as Abel Resino's assistant with Celta Vigo and in Pomegranate.
