Ex-Cardiff, Nottingham Forest striker Earnshaw over the moon at Vancouver Whitecaps debut

Robert Earnshaw admitted he didn't really know what to do after scoring the winner on his Vancouver Whitecaps debut.

The experienced striker coolly slotted home in the 90th minute to give the 'Caps a 2-1 triumph over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers at BC Place on the weekend just three minutes after entering the pitch.

The former Cardiff City, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion forward was jubilant after getting on the end of Pedro Morales' delightful through ball and admits it was a brilliant feeling to contribute so early in his Vancouver career.

"I didn't know what to do," Earnshaw quipped. "I was so emotional. I was so happy. I kind of lost myself a little bit. That's credit to everyone here.

"Yeah, I scored the winner. But it's not possible if Pedro doesn't see me, (goalkeeper) David Ousted doesn't make a save maybe a minute earlier, the defending and the amount of work we put in. All these things, that's the game. That's what I see out there, so it's credit to the whole team."

Of the goal, former Wales international Earnshaw added: "The length of time I've been playing football and that feeling when the ball hits the net, oh my god, it's the best.

"Within that split two, two-and-a-half seconds, my mind is going. It's like three minutes because I have to know what to do, when to do it and react to what he was doing."
