Ex-Cardiff boss Jones: Wolves getting a good player in Johnson

Former Cardiff City boss Dave Jones says that Wolves are getting a top player in Roger Johnson.

The 28-year old Birmingham City defender is close to joining the Molineux club for around £7million and the man who signed him from Wycombe in 2006 knows exactly what Mick McCarthy will get.

"Roger is a model pro who will be a super buy for Wolves - I think he will improve the team," he said.

"He's a very determined character and I don't see any reason why he can't play for England while he's at Wolves.

"The more he plays in the Premier League, he will only become more knowledgeable in his game and improve further.

"He's got four or five years ahead of him at Wolves where he'll be in his pomp, and because he's got that desire, he still wants to learn.

"Roger is a good leader, a talker, a hollerer and a shouter - he doesn't suffer fools gladly but he will get around the dressing room and get people going," he added.

"He's a very low maintenance player who gives high levels of performance. He's a good defender who is a very strong header of the ball - he very rarely misses it in the air defensively or attacking-wise."
