Ex-Cardiff boss Jones: Ledley so vital for Celtic's title quest

Dave Jones has rated Joe Ledley as an extremely vital player for Celtic as they go after a first Scottish Premier League title since 2008.

The former Cardiff City manager coached Ledley in South Wales before his shift to Glasgow and knows what you see is what you get with the consistent midfielder.

"Joe was the type of lad you just put on the teamsheet because you knew what you were going to get," Jones told Record Sport.

"He is what managers call low maintenance. You need players like that. You never had to worry about Joe not being there or anything like that. You gave him a time and a place and he'd be there.

"We had big players at Cardiff such as (Robbie) Fowler and (Jimmy Floyd) Hasselbaink and they were the ones at the forefront but Joe and boys of his type are to be relied upon.

"You depend on these guys at this stage of a season. He's scored in big games for Cardiff, like the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley and the play-off final, and he's doing it for Celtic in cup finals and Old Firm games.

"Joe always pops up with a goal and, with his technical ability, he's a must to play when it comes to the big games when the prizes are being handed out.

"Joe is a model professional. He'll play anywhere you want him to and he doesn't give you any grief. I have nothing but for admiration for him."
