Ex-Burnley midfielder Barton reveals Marseille aspirations

Joey Barton has revealed his desire to rejoin Marseille one day in his career.

The former Burnley midfielder was banned from playing football for 18 months for betting infractions and won't be able to register as a player until June 2018.

After being suspended for 12 games whilst at QPR, Barton joined the Ligue 1 club on loan for the 2012/13 season. The tenacious midfielder made 25 league appearances that season and established himself as a fan favourite.

"The supporters immediately accepted me when I arrived," said Barton, speaking in a video posted on the Ligue 1 club's official website as part of the documentary 'Marseille: A football city'.

"They must have perceived something in my character and personality that they liked.

"I'd love one day to pull the jersey on again and if I can't do it as a player then I would love to do it as a coach or manager."
