Torsten Frings still rates himself as a midfielder and would like to continue playing in that position if it were possible.
But Toronto FC coach Aron Winter has him playing in between the centre-backs as a sweeper and at the moment it seems to be working with the Canadian club winning three of their past four matches.
Former Germany international Frings says he prefers to play as a midfielder but says he will do the job his coach entrusts him to.
"It's not my decision, it's the coach's decision," Frings said through a translator after the CONCACAF Champions League win over Tauro on Tuesday night.
"I feel that the team likes that I play back there and we've been playing well with me back there.
"But at the end of the day, I am a midfielder and I'd like to play midfield again in the future."
