Former Sheffield United midfielder Nicky Travis was delighted with his goal scoring performance in Central Coast Mariners' victory over A-League leaders Gold Coast United. Travis told the Sydney Morning Herald: 'Obviously, we love being the underdogs; nobody expects us to beat teams like Gold Coast, so there's no pressure on us,'' he said. ''Having said that, when some people label us a long-ball side, it hurts the gaffer [Lawrie McKinna] and it hurts the players who want to play, because we know how good we are. I think people can see that after this performance. It feels great to prove a point, but whether it changes people's minds, I don't know.'
''I've really enjoyed it so far,'' he said. ''It's similar to England, very competitive, there's some good players, some technical players. It was massive for the gaffer to give me the opportunity to come out here. It's been massive for me, and hopefully I can pay him back, and pay the team back, by putting in some good performances. I just want to have a good season, and stay injury-free.''
