David Carney has made the surprise move of signing with Spanish second division club AD Alcorcon.
The former Sheffield United, Norwich City and FC Twente defender has been without a club since being released by Blackpool at the end of last season but has now linked up with the Segunda Division's seventh-placed team.
27-year old Carney had trials with West Ham United recently and was also a transfer target for Nottingham Forest but neither deal came through and he will now resume his career in the southwest of Madrid after signing a one-year deal.
