Ex-Blackburn, West Ham striker McCarthy training Ajax Cape Town

Former Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United striker Benni McCarthy hopes to rebuild his career at Ajax Cape Town.

McCarthy, 33, struggled to make any impact at West Ham and has now returned to South Africa.

Ajax spokesperson Shooz Mekuto said: “It will be nice to welcome the famous son of Cape Town because his move to Ajax was the catalyst for Ajax Amsterdam to establish Ajax Cape Town.

“Benni is looking for a new club but in the meantime he is also aiming to be in good shape to land a new contract.”
