Former Blackburn Rovers youth academy player Toni Kolehmainen is on trial with MLS club New York Red Bull.

The 21-year old Finish defensive midfielder started at right-back in the Red Bulls' friendly against Norwegian club Stromsgodset in La Manga, Spain and scored the eventual winner in the 2-1 result.

Kolehmainen has been playing with Finland club AC Oulu after a stint with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar after he began his career with OLS Oulu in 2005.

Prior to that he spent time with Blackburn's youth academy and was a sought after commodity whilst there in 2004-05.
