Sacked Blackburn Rovers assistant manager Neil McDonald is in the frame for the Motherwell job.
The Daily Record says McDonald who was Sam Allardyce's right-hand man at Bolton and Blackburn is in pole position to land the job which was vacated when Craig Brown and Archie Knox headed north to take on the task of keeping Aberdeen in the top flight.
McDonald saw Motherwell lose to Rangers on the weekend.
He looks set to get the nod ahead of more high-profile contenders, including former Celtic strikers John Hartson and Chris Sutton as well ex-Ranger Stuart McCall.
