Former Belgium star Marc Degryse rates Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany the best defender in the world.

Degryse hailed Kompany's performance in City's thumping win over Manchester United.

He enthused: "He is the king of Manchester and the leader of the Red Devils. He came back from injury, but was immediately outstanding. And to do that in such a game is world class.

"I can think of no better central defender in the world.

"He is of absolute world class."
