Ex-Bayern Munich, Leverkusen midfielder Can planning long career with Liverpool

Emre Can is planning a long and successful career with Liverpool.

The 20-year old German midfielder joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for £9.75million in the summer despite him having the option to return to former club Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants had a buy-back clause for Can but he opted to make the move to Anfield and is now hoping he can become a regular for Brendan Rodgers' Reds after showing so much promise in Germany.

"Bayern had a buyback clause but that didn't kick in until next year," Can told the Liverpool Echo.

"There were some discussions with Bayern this summer but I decided the best thing for me would be to accept the opportunity to come to Liverpool.

"Before I came here I had discussions with Brendan Rodgers and that made my mind up. From those talks I was very positive about this move.

"This whole club is very ambitious and positive about how it wants to play football. That's the way I want to play football too.

"Liverpool believe in the same things and that's why I came here. I want to stay here for a long time."

The Germany U21 international added: "When I left Bayern for Leverkusen it was never certain that I would go back there. You can never say what will happen in the future.

"Last season I was fully committed to Leverkusen, I wasn't thinking about what would happen years down the line.

"You never know what will happen in football. Now I'm here and I'm fully committed to Liverpool."
