Ex-Barcelona presidential candidate Majo slams Messi for Faus attack
Former Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo has attacked Lionel Messi over his blast for club chief Javier Faus. Messi turned on Faus after the Barca director ruled out a new contract for the Argentine.
"Messi has created problems for nothing; Mr. Faus did not say anything malicious. Mr. Faus's comments echo what many club members think. Messi understands football but does not understand business, or finance, or the management of Barça. So he should keep quiet," Majo told Esports en La Xarx.
"Neither party is in the right; Mr. Faus should stay out of the spotlight and Messi was also wrong to blame Mr. Faus", Majó pointed out. "Messi shouldn't concern himself with Faus's comments. Faus did not make them maliciously. Messi is the club's highest paid employee.
"Players come and go but the club remains. Nobody can influence Barça's strategic decision-making, not Messi, nor Kubala in his day. Barça is more than Messi. Messi is the best in the world but he can't put Barça between a rock and a hard place.
"I would never allow either Messi or anyone else to pressure the club into making decisions that are neither rational nor logical, or are not conducive to the harmony that should exist in the dressing room."
