Former Barcelona coach Tata Martino is in line for the Argentina job.
Canchallena says Martino has been offered - and accepted - the national team job after a two hour meeting with FA officials.
However, interim AFA president, Luis Segura, insisted: "We haven't made our decision yet. When we choose a coach, whether that be Martino or someone else, we'll make the announcement at a press conference.
"We aren't going to talk about everything that happened."
