Former Atletico Madrid captain Gabi admits he expecting Antoine Griezmann to leave this summer.

Griezmann came close to joining Barcelona before committing to Atletico before the World Cup.

Gabi, now with Al Sadd, told AS: "I had doubts. I was very confused. 'Capi, I'll stay,' he told me. Then after I saw (Gerard) Piqué 'He told us he was coming', and I said to myself 'What c ******'.

"But in the end he was right, he stayed. He knows he'll never be better than at Atléti. The supporters? They must enjoy him. He decided to stay, to say no to Barça. It must be highlighted, help him. All that will be good for Griezmann will be good for Atléti."
