Ex-Atletico chief Pitarch: Barcelona came close to buying Diego Costa

Former Atletico Madrid sports chief Jesus Garcia Pitarch has revealed Barcelona made an attempt to sign Diego Costa.

The striker has been superb for Atletico this season.

Pitarch recalled: "This is not known, but it is true. It was the year that Barca B rose from Segunda B to Second. They wanted to strengthen the team and made an offer of €3 million for Diego Costa. He had ended his loan spell at Valladolid, where he did very well, and half the Spanish Liga wanted him on loan.

"But only Barca offered money, but we discarded the operation."
