Sydney FC have recently been linked with a number of big-name foreigners but insist they will not be signing the likes of Freddie Ljungberg or Nwankwo Kanu. The Sky Blues have been mentioned in the same verse as the former Arsenal duo whilst Werder Bremen's Markus Rosenberg and FC Twente's Marc Janko have also been linked.
But chief executive Dirk Melton says it is unlikely that the two-time A-League champions will be adding a foreign player in a guest role especially after the capture of Australian international Brett Emerton from Blackburn Rovers.
"The right thing to do is see how Brett and (fellow marquee player) Nicky (Carle) develop," said Melton.
"It's not a definitive no (to a foreign guest player), but considering how expensive they are there'd need to be a good reason for it, and right now is not the right time to do it."
