Barcelona have announced that Thomas Vermaelen is set to undergo surgery on his troublesome Achilles tendon.
The 29-year old centre-back sustained the injury while playing for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup and is now likely to be sidelined for a further five months.
It has been revealed that Vermaelen will have the procedure with Dr Sakari Orava next Tuesday in Finland.
Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal for £15million in the summer, is yet to feature for the Catalan giants this season.
