Ex-Arsenal keeper Alumunia says Wenger should be afforded time to win one more trophy
In an interview with Goal.com, former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia believes the club should give manager Arsene Wenger the chance to win another important trophy.
While Almunia accepts Arsenal have not enjoyed the same success as Wenger's initial years at the club, the Frenchman is a club legend who deserves to depart on good terms.
"I'm surprised that someone stays in change for such a long time, as I was surprised that Ferguson was as long on the bench, because football is so difficult," he said.
"It's so hard to stay such a long time in charge of a big club. It's difficult to be a player in a big club and stay many years on it, as a manager, it's much more difficult. That's why I'm impressed."
"Arsene is a great coach and he deserved one of these years to lift a big trophy."
It is unclear whether Wenger will remain with the club for another season, especially if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for a second successive season.
