Ex-Arsenal, Dortmund keeper Lehmann not ruling out coaching role

Jens Lehmann has kept the door ajar for a possible future coaching role with the German national team.

The 44-year old former German national team goalkeeper has signed on with German broadcaster RTL which will see him using his punditry for matches featuring die Mannschaft from September onwards.

Lehmann, who spent time with Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal during an extensive playing career, has in the past pondered a role in coaching but has so far focused on getting involved in the media.

In an interview with BILD, Lehmann hinted that perhaps one day he could consider stepping into the coaching side of things.

"So I have not been busy myself, otherwise I would not even signed at RTL. But who knows: In football you should not rule anything out," he said when asked if an assistant coaching role to current Germany boss Joachim Low was an option.

Lehmann played 61 times for Germany during a ten-year international career where he often battled it out with Bayern Munich great Oliver Kahn for starting honours.

BILD also posed the question to Lehmann regarding his ongoing competition with Kahn but these days he is more relaxed about the friendly feud as Der Titan is currently on board with RTL's competitors ZDF.

"The nice thing is: There are now two places for both of us and not just as a 2006 course, RTL and ZDF are going to want to have better odds than the competitor.. I myself am as relaxed," said Lehmann, who went head to head with Kahn for a start in the German team at the 2006 World Cup.
