Stoke City new boy Matthew Upson is intent on winning his place in the first team after making his debut last week.
The 32-year old former Arsenal and Birmingham City man joined the Potters as a free agent after his contract with West Ham United expired at the end of last season and after playing 90 minutes in last Thursday's Europa League play-off win against FC Thun is looking to push his way into Tony Pulis' first team.
"I want to play as many games as I can," Upson said.
"I've had a bit of a slow start in terms of what my pre-season consisted of.
"I worked pretty hard by myself but I haven't the minutes on the pitch that you would get in pre-season friendlies together with the squad.
"But I'm pleased with what shape I am in."
